Not all of us are used to landscaping and may not afford a consultant. The easiest way to learn is from websites and books.
Good design planning can save money. The plans should also include maintenance costs, equipment costs, storage, fertilizer costs and even water and irrigation system. This ideally needs to be planned for the front and back garden at the same time.
Start small and go slow. Whilst you work section by section you need to have clear idea about where each orchids are placed and why? Take into account sunlight, shade, water supply etc before you commit.
Trees and Shurbs: You may love a fancy mango tree in your garden. But think twice about the sunlight needed for orchids. You may consider it else where.

Timing: We in Kerala, have struggled on various occassions to complete the work due to the monsoon. Hence planning has to be done considering the climatic conditions. Consider and complete most of the work in the best time of the year.
Be Unique: Ultimately, remember that your garden has to be unique and not fully inspired by your neighbour's. It is good to be creative. Incorporate your wishes and ideas as much as possible. Involve your family and gather their ideas. You are much likely to enjoy it. |
